Mother’s Day Contest

Mom
/mɒm/ noun
1. Your first dress up partner

This Mother’s Day we asked you to tell us why your mom is you first and favourite dress up partner.

We got loads of entries, and had a really hard time choosing a winner – which only goes to show that there are so many amazing moms out there!

In the end though, we decided on @prriyankatanwar, her beautiful tale about how her mom helped her find her wedding lehenga despite being ill made us mist up {pass the tissues please} Congratulations – you’ve just won a PVR gift card worth INR2000 to treat your mom with.

“My wedding lehenga search was going on in full swing and I had been running from pillar to post searching for my dream outfit. I didn’t want to blind everyone with bling. Neither did I have the cash to splash. I had tried everything – the designer stores, the pretty boutiques, small time designers, malls, local stores and markets but nothing could really catch my eye.

Then my Mom suggested Chandni Chowk. Now I had heard a lot about this place from family and friends, wedding blogs and magazines alike. I was scared of going to this place as I had heard many stories of theft and fraud. But my Mom convinced me to give it a try and we hopped on the next Metro to Chandni Chowk. My Mom had single handedly done the research from friends, relatives and colleagues and made a list of must visit stores.

It was a bling lovers paradise. After we swam through a sea of agents to our first destination we were already tired. The place was roomy but very crowded. We sat down to see the sarees and lehengas and were served with chai and tikki as is the norm here. The sales boys started showing us the outfits one by one. We didn’t like any. I was getting restless. Then the sales boy asked if he could increase the budget by a bit by like 5k. We agreed and out came a beautiful red and gold wedding lehenga. I was mesmerized. I couldn’t take my eyes off it. This was perfect. Like it was made for me. It was just exquisite. The sales boy put it on me and when I turned to look at my mother, her eyes were moist, she was fumbling for her handkerchief, giving me a 100watt smile. And I knew that I had found my wedding outfit.

That is what is special about my Mom. When I stumble she comes forward to take the lead and complete s the mission. Her research was so thorough that what we had been searching for weeks…we found in the first store itself. My Mom has osteoarthritis and you can imagine how painful it would have been for her to carry on this exercise day after day but she never complained once. I want her.”
