Meet Freya Katre. Sports Psychologist. Marathon Runner. Dire Straits Lover. Rare Book Collector. And Human to Four Gorgeous Dogs.

As a Sports Psychologist, tell us about the people you work with?

I have all kinds of athletes coming in, the youngest being 9 years old and of course more senior athletes as well. Even in terms of the level at which they play, we have both recreational athletes just starting out and elite athletes representing the country.

What drew you towards this line of work?

Growing up on a school campus and spending a large amount of time outdoors, I always knew that doing something in line with sport is where I’d be happiest. Additionally, it was psychology per say that academically held my interest right through school and university so sport psychology seemed a perfect match between the two.

What is the most fulfilling aspect of your work?

The most fulfilling aspect of my work would primarily be the fact that I get to work with a likeminded team, all of whom are dedicated towards bettering the nature of sport in our country. Sport is a challenging field to work in and sport psychology is particular, as it does come with a certain amount of skepticism. It’s that challenge in creating awareness that always keeps things interesting.

Is there a sport that you love to play and why?

I grew up swimming and horse riding, and those are the two sports I’d say I’m most attached to. In the last couple of years, I’ve taken to long distance running more seriously, with half marathons being my preferred distance.

Who are some of the people that inspire you, both personally and professionally?

I do believe that there is always that little something that one can take away, from any interaction, including someone you may meet just in passing. So, it would be next to impossible to put names down, but broadly put my family, friends and colleagues inspire me the most on a regular basis.

How would you describe your personal fashion style?

I’d describe my personal fashion style as simple, clean lines, nothing too fussy. I like things to fit well and these are hard to come by, but when they do I make sure I hang on to them.

Apart from work, what are some of your other interests?

Other than work, I enjoy going out, meeting new people, traveling and discovering new places. I also spend a fair amount of time training during the marathon season and offseason.
