Trend Alert: Red Haute!

Over the last few years an increasing number of Indian stars have decided to strut their stuff on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet as more and more Bollywood films compete on the international stage. As their films get judged by the film fraternity, we are taking the opportunity to judge their choice in wardrobe: so tell us, Cannes they? Or can’t they?

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Naeem Khan: Yes she Cannes!

Omg – how much do you just love this look! The beaded bodice that opens into a full ruffled skirt, Aish’s gorgeous flowing locks, and a touch of red lipstick to finish it off. Move over Julia Roberts, we’ve got a new Pretty Woman in town! No colour makes you stand out as much as red. Not only is it super easy to wear, but it is also great for those days when you are feeling blue. It’s also known to increase physical energy, stamina and passion – ooh la la!

We love this Veda Raheja tomato red gown – the geometric detailing on the waist amazingly hides all those little lumps, and the side slit is sure to get everyone’s blood racing. This is a perfect look for any summer wedding. Style it with loose flowing curls for a beach side breezy look, or wear your hair in a low ponytail and dramatic earrings for some city chic.

Rina Dhaka’s red pleated gown with embroidered bodice is a stunning addition to any wardrobe. The ethnic embroidery makes it easily wearable for a chilled day-time event like a mehendi – just add on some gold jhumkas, stacks of bangles and simple gold sandals and you are good to go. Alternatively, you could dress it up with some red lipstick, some green coloured earrings and a pair of killer heels for a cocktail.

If gowns aren’t your thing then you could always try this red jumpsuit by Ridhi Mehra. Incredibly flattering tone-on-tone embroidered bodice and flared trouser legs will suit almost every figure. Wear it with simple jewelry and an up-do to show off work. Or make like Aish, and leave your hair loose and throw on a spot of Ruby Woo lipstick by MAC.
